The Benefits of Hosting an Online Summit

Hosting an online summit is no small feat, especially as a highly sensitive person and an introvert. However there are many benefits that can far outweigh the more challenging parts of it.

This post shares some of the advantages that hosting an online summit can bring you. Hopefully it will encourage you to explore this further and perhaps consider hosting a summit yourself.

The Advantages of Hosting an Online Summit

    1. Connections

Hosting an Online SummitOne of the most rewarding things when hosting an online summit are the connections you will make.

You get the opportunity to speak with like-minded people from all over the world. Often people who you may never have considered reaching out to. And what better reason to reach out to invite them to be a guest speaker for an event that you are hosting.

Of course, they must be aligned with your audience and the topic of your summit and you with their audience. It totally needs to be a win-win scenario for all involved.

What’s in it for them to offer up their time and expertise?

Often it is to help grow their audience by getting them in front of people outside of their own community.

For some speakers, it could be a chance to hone their speaking skills in the online space before taking to a live stage.

Of course, not all speakers will be available or feel they are suitable for your particular summit. However, you have still made a valuable connection and one you can build on if you both feel the harmony.

Personally, I have made some incredible connections and friendships from all over the world from hosting online summits. Both from the speakers, potential speakers and of course the community who have signed up for the summits I have hosted.

Many of these have led to new clients and wonderful collaborations.

    2. Personal Growth Journey

If you suffer from visibility issues and fear of judgement like I did, hosting a virtual summit can feel very daunting and intimidating.

The interviews with your guest speakers are recorded on video, often over Zoom. This in itself is a huge challenge for anyone not comfortable being on camera. Especially if you are an introverted HSP!

Personally, putting myself out there on camera or anything that shone the light on me was not on my bucket list.

Getting out of my comfort zone has changed the way I show up. Not only in my business but it has had a ripple effect in my whole life. I’ve learnt to trust in myself and my vulnerabilities. To show up with authenticity.

The personal growth journey you will go on if you choose to host your own online summit, is life-changing.

There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

    3. Private Education

You can read all the books in the world but having the personal conversations you get to have with your guest speakers is a fabulous way to increase your knowledge.

Not only do the summit attendees learn a lot from the lineup of inspiring speakers, as a host, you do too!

Having the opportunity to interview people for 20-30 minutes to ask them questions is priceless. One such speaker in my first summit was Dr Shad Helmstetter. I had read Dr Helmstetter’s book some 30 years prior – What To Say When You Talk To Yourself. This book had made such an impact on me and being able to spend 25 minutes with him asking all the questions I had always wanted to ask was truly a gift. Not to mention, sharing his knowledge with the thousands who watched that first summit.

As part of hosting an online summit, you will learn many wonderful tips, advice and strategies.

I have had the pleasure of interviewing over 70 incredible humans in the three summits I have hosted so far. All of these speakers have been so generous in sharing their time and their knowledge with me.

And the best part is, I get to share this knowledge and education with many, many others.

    4. Grow Your Email List

Growing your email list is often the number one reason why many people host online summits. While it is definitely one of the main advantages, the connections are my number reason. However increasing your audience size is the icing on the cake.

Collaborating with other speakers allows both the host and the speakers to get in front of people they may not have otherwise reached as already mentioned.

You will also have the opportunity to be invited to guest speak on other summits and podcasts as I have.

As mentioned earlier too, make sure that the speakers you invite are aligned with your values and your own audience. And always ensure it is for their benefit to be a guest on your summit.

Here is just some of the feedback received from attendees in The HSP Entrepreneur Summit 2021:

This was *the* best summit I’ve seen for HSPs. The 25-30 minute length was ideal! I didn’t catch every talk though your presentation/interview style was excellent, slow and paced enough to track and process yet diving in as well to the topic at hand.
    – Lisa, Participant

This was a fabulous summit and it’s due to your level of service and dedication. My deepest gratitude!
    – Lori, Participant

This is the best and more helpful summit hsp oriented I attended online. I’m enrolling in very different summits and trainings that can help me before launching my business online and this is the one that resonated more with me. Thank you so much. I hope this could be done more often.

  • How is Your Self Talk?

    How is Your Self Talk?

Do you wake up every day feeling amazing? What is the first thing you say to yourself every day?

I used to hate mornings. In fact, it was difficult to drag myself out of bed much before 9am.

What has this got to do with self-talk you might ask?

    Don’t worry, I’ll get to that in a sec…

    Backstory

Growing up, we lived opposite the high school which was a good thing! I had it down to a fine art to be up at 8.50am and be sitting at my desk in the classroom at 9 o’clock on the dot!

This carried on for many years and although things improved and I eventually got into a routine of getting up around 7am, it was still a struggle to wake up feeling on top of the world.

And who doesn’t want that right?

Since moving to the Sunshine Coast of Queensland almost 7 years ago, things have totally flipped around!

Queensland doesn’t observe daylight saving so in the summer, the first light is around 4.30am.

This took a bit of getting used to for me, although my husband loved it. He’s always been an early riser (which I found totally annoying!) He loves to be in the surf or on his bike before sunrise.

However as we progressed into our first summer here, I realised that getting up early was the only way I could get all my daily exercise in before it got too hot.

So I got into the habit of going to bed early – I’m talking around 8pm!

Self-talkThis led to getting up at 5am.

It didn’t take long to get into this new rhythm and I honestly can’t imagine ever going back.

So this leads me to the topic of this post.

Self talk and the words that you say to yourself

Self development has always been a massive part of my life’s journey. One of the many memorable books I have read (which is yellowed from age, dog eared and full of different coloured highlights!) is a book called What To Say When You Talk To Yourself.

I was fortunate enough to interview the author, Dr Shad Helmstetter, in my first virtual summit last year – Stand Out And Be Seen.

Dr Helmstetter shared so many valuable lessons with my audience and it was an incredible honour to spend time with him.

I discovered many years ago that what we say when we talk to ourselves is incredibly important. Not just from this book but from other books and through my training in hypnotherapy and Rapid Transformational Therapy.

I’ve reread Dr Helmstetter’s book many times over the years. One of those times was when I started getting up at 5am. Although I found it easy to wake up, I still had that incessant, negative chatter in my head about mornings.

😠 Oh I’ve got so much to get done today!
😠 Do I have to get up already?
😠 Will I ever achieve my goals?

You get the picture. On and on it went.

So I decided to use one of the scripts from the book and rewrite it to get rid of my negative self talk.

I’d written and used many scripts before. In a matter of weeks, sometimes days, I would notice the difference with my self talk. So why not write a morning one!

I’ve been using this script every day for over six years and there has been a vast improvement in so many areas of my life.

I would love to share it with you. Hopefully it may inspire you to think about what you say to yourself as soon as you wake up.

    Here goes ….

    Your Best Day Ever

Today is the best day ever.
I woke up feeling alive, focused and on fire.
I am energised and had the most incredible night’s sleep.
With every breath I take I feel myself becoming more and more aligned with the flow, the energy that creates worlds.
I see my desires already obtained and I embrace the joy that I feel knowing that the love, life, success and prosperity that are rightfully mine, are already in my life right now.
I am so excited about my productivity levels today, there’s something in the air and I feel more focused and centred on my goals, priorities and objectives than ever.
I feel my desires bubbling forth with incredible clarity and I clearly know what to do, when to do it and how to do it.
I am inspired to be at the right place at the right time and to say the right things for the highest and best possible experience today.
I am grateful that I am healthy, happy and have a wonderful day ahead of me.

Now when I wake up, this is immediately what I say to myself.

Sometimes just once and other times, if that negative, nagging voice wants to pipe up, I’ll repeat it a few times.

    How to memorise it

You might be wondering how I memorised this and how it just flows for me now.

What I did was to record it on my iPhone and listen every morning. I would play the first few sentences, pause and repeat it out loud. Then play a few more, pause and repeat those out loud. I continued this over and over, for many days until I had committed the whole thing to memory.

Now whenever I wake up, this is the first thing that springs to my mind. I don’t repeat it out loud any more but say it to myself.

As you can imagine, the difference it has made to my mindset over the years has been huge.

I hope this has inspired you to be aware of what you say to yourself, not just when you first awaken, but throughout the day.

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve got loads of scripts that are both recorded and that I have memorised over the years.

I use various ones throughout the day, depending on what’s going on and which one is needed to drown out any negativity.

It doesn’t come up nearly as often as it used to, but it is a daily practice that I highly recommend to stay positive, motivated and happy.

Let me know if this resonates with you and if you want to learn more, I really encourage you to check out the book. If you want access to the interview I did with Dr Helmstetter, along with 30 other incredible speakers, you may be interested in the Stand Out And Be Seen Masterclass Series.
