    Becoming A Life Coach

I am now over halfway through my journey to becoming a life coach, having completed almost six months of intensive training through the Human Potential Institute.

After graduating as a Rapid Transformational Therapist back in 2018, I became aware that by becoming a life coach and adding coaching skills to my RTT skills would be a huge benefit to my clients.

It took me a year to find the right coaching program that both aligned with my values and would be a perfect match for my Rapid Transformational Therapy skills.

I came across the Human Potential Institute after being an avid listener of the Bulletproof podcast.

The Human Potential Institute was formerly known as the Bulletproof Coaching Institute. The Institute was founded in 2015 by Dave Asprey of Bulletproof fame and Dr Mark Atkinson, a medical doctor and human potential teacher.

The Human Potential Institute vision is to empower and equip millions of people worldwide to realize their unlimited potential.

Their vision absolutely aligned with my own goals and values.

The Institute training is extensive and covers subjects from human potential development to coaching for happiness. Other topics span coaching for energy, stress reduction and resilience, nutrition, supplements, sleep, the art and science of biohacking, state of high performance, building better habits, logical and critical thinking skills, embodied transformation, physical activity, hacking happiness, the psychology of success, and cognitive performance.

So much more information and resources are shared in this course on a plethora of subjects such as HeartMath, neuroplasticity, longevity, focusing oriented therapy, positive psychology, Holosync, psychological fitness, lucid dreaming, neurofeedback.

Additionally, and of great importance to me, is that the course is ICF (International Coach Federation) accredited. This means that the certification process is stringent and that we are required to uphold and maintain a set of recognised standards for the benefit of my clients.

The ICF core competencies are covered in-depth throughout the training. These include: demonstrates ethical practice, embodies a coaching mindset, establishes and maintains agreements, cultivates trust and safety, maintains presence, listens actively, evokes awareness, and facilitates client growth.

ICF core values: Integrity, Excellence, Collaboration, Respect

From the outset, we were encouraged to start coaching clients in a real-life setting. I have already clocked over 60 hours of one-on-one coaching during the course of my studies. Through my coaching practice, I have honed my coaching skills and put into practice the many subjects and tools covered in my training.

These coaching sessions are in addition to the buddy calls and the various breakout sessions which form part of the course. I have coached and been coached on such a wide variety of topics that I feel I am already equipped to help my clients with any issues that they bring to me.

The teaching faculty offers an absolute wealth of knowledge in both the live calls and in the vast learning platform. The live calls are bi-weekly for the first five and a half months then twice weekly for the final two and a half months.

The learning materials, research, data and more has far exceeded my expectation, and to have lifelong access to these materials is a wonderful bonus.
    Mindfulness
Included in this coach training is an 8-week Mindfulness course. This course is of huge benefit to participants both as coaches and as human beings on a path to betterment.

Having been a regular practitioner in the Vedic Meditation discipline (a branch of Transcendental Meditation), I was delighted to be initiated into the whole new world of Mindfulness. After completing this 8-week course I have now found a way to incorporate and gain the benefits of both disciplines into my daily meditation practice.

When I joined the Human Potential Institute I had fully expected to be attending a live two-day workshop in Brisbane. This workshop is another component of the training and unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this could no longer go ahead face-to-face. However, the workshop went ahead in a virtual space and I have to say, the two days were quite incredible. I came away with even more tools and insights, as well as meeting even more coaches-in-training from around the world.

Being part of this community for the past five and a half months, I have been honoured to meet so many wonderful people, all on the same journey and the same wavelength. I feel I have made lifelong friends and colleagues.

Each week we are invited to a one hour ‘office hours’ Zoom call where we have the opportunity to ask our burning questions. Every quarter we have a live Q&A call with Dave Asprey as well as regular webinars with Dr Mark Atkinson.

If all of the above is not enough, I have had the privilege of working one-on-one with past graduate coaches as part of a complimentary program called ‘Coach You’. This has been such an insightful and illuminating experience for me. I now understand why all coaches must also have their own coach and I will ensure I always have my own coach in the future.

Although the title of this blog post is Journey To Becoming A Life Coach, the Human Potential Coach training teaches health and personal development coaching, as well as performance coaching. In my initial research into coach training, this was the only course I came across that covered all four aspects of coaching.

As I’m sure you can gather from this post, I can’t praise the Human Potential Institute highly enough. If you’re interested in learning how to become a life coach with a highly respected organisation who is affiliated with the ICF, then I recommend you to investigate the Human Potential Institute further.
